Joining a Car Club Was the Best Decision I’ve Made

3 years ago, I decided to join the BMWCCA on a whim. I thought it would be fun to go on some drives or attend some specialized car shows. Little did I know that it would become a big part of my life. I attended a board meeting not really knowing what that even meant. Within 30 minutes, I was sworn in as the Communications Director. I was surprised how fast I was welcomed. There are many reasons to get involved with like-minded people but joining a car club has the most reasons.

First, the biggest reason is that you get access to a community of people that all like the same thing. I would recommend a club that is specific enough to give you a group but not so specific that there are only 5 cars in existence. For this reason, I chose the BMWCCA since I have always loved BMW and have had 3. It’s nice to know that when I go to an event, there will be someone I know to chat with, and people that I don’t know that are willing to chat. This community gives you a sense of camaraderie that is hard to find elsewhere. There is always someone interested in your car or your next project. The community also acts as a sounding board for ideas, information, or any questions you could possibly think of.

Another overlooked aspect is access to exclusive events. At least for BMWCCA, 90% of the event are members only. While I don’t care to exclude people, it’s more that the number of events I can attend is larger than not being in a club. Some of them are very special and you can’t just stumble upon them. In 2019, we were able to set up multiple shop tours around town, a private hill climb event, and a show on a private lake built for competitive water sports. I think these events are worth the price of admission alone.

The most important return from joining a club is the network you build. I have met so many people that you normally wouldn’t assume as a car person, but they own 10+ rare BMWs and a secure garage. These are the people you NEED to know. Getting in the know with real car people opens doors for your own project that you would never even know was possible. I met some people through the club that got me some rare BBS wheels and some European import parts for about half of what they are worth. These same people have come to my garage to put in some wrench time on my car. Hell, one of them turned out to be my realtor. I think joining a community and building your network is so important to your project. You never know who has what, or who you’ll need to borrow a tool from. Having them in your back pocket is the most valuable tool at your disposal.

If you are needing something extra on the weekends or looking to meet some new people, a car club is the place to do it. Worst case scenario, you get access to some amazing events. Best case, you may find that missing piece to your car or a new group of friends. Don’t sleep on the clubs in your area and you won’t regret it.

Motorsports Renaissance: Why Racing Culture Is Hot Again (and Here to Stay)

A decade ago, trying to explain your love for motorsports often came with an eye roll or questioning one’s sanity. People still thought racing was just cars going in circles or that Formula 1 was a niche European quirk, if they even knew what it was. But somewhere in the high-stakes world of million-dollar decisions and split-second failures, where team principals wage psychological warfare in the paddock while drivers risk everything at 200 mph, something…

Hikari Rennwerke’s K24-Swapped 911 is Redefining What it Means to Build Dreams

There’s a special kind of madness that strikes car builders when they stare at their project long enough. It starts innocently: maybe a simple engine refresh, perhaps some suspension work, definitely “just a few bolt-ons.” But somewhere between researching parts and scrolling through build threads at 2 AM, the voices in your head start whispering dangerous things. What if we went bigger? What if we went different? What if we threw the rulebook out the…

Rise and Shine: Race Service’s Friday Morning Gathering

There’s something magical about a Friday morning. Not the alarm clock going off before the sun is up part, but that moment when you pull up to a warehouse in Los Angeles, the smell of espresso hits you before you even open the car door, and you realize you’re surrounded by people who value good coffee and even better cars. Welcome to Rise and Shine at Race Service, where “elevated car culture” isn’t just a…
