Nestled in the vibrant heart of Long Beach, California, outside the quaint yet bustling Good Time Coffee, is “All Makes Welcome”. A monthly low-key car show that unfolds as a picturesque representation of Southern California’s rich automotive tapestry. Unlike the traditional “Cars and Coffee” meets where the aroma of premium coffee blends with the sight of shiny supercars, this event adds a refreshing twist, capturing the essence of SoCal car culture in a celebration that’s as diverse as it is inclusive.
Southern California, a region synonymous with freeways and car enthusiasts, has long been the melting pot of various automotive subcultures. From the laid-back surf wagon fans to the hardcore street racers, SoCal’s car scene is as varied as its landscape. “All Makes Welcome” distills this eclectic mix into a single event, showcasing everything from pristine 80s classics and rugged off-roaders Porsches and beyond. The show not only mirrors the region’s automotive diversity but also its spirit of openness and camaraderie, making it a true reflection of SoCal car culture. With a motto of “rung what you brung”, the event doesn’t discriminate against anything. However, that’s not to say that there aren’t nice cars. I would go as far to say that I definitely could afford over half of what showed up the day I went.
One of the standout features of the “All Makes Welcome” show is its ability to marry two passions seamlessly—cars and coffee—creating a relaxed atmosphere where enthusiasts can indulge in their love for great brews and even greater rides. The setting outside Good Time Coffee offers a perfect backdrop for this gathering, providing a laid-back vibe that’s rare at more conventional car shows. Here, you don’t have to choose between admiring your dream car and enjoying a high-quality cup of coffee; you’re encouraged to savor both, making it a morning well spent.

In a departure from many modern car shows where the shine of the chrome often reflects a culture of ownership and status, “All Makes Welcome” shifts the focus back to the art of automobiles. This event celebrates the design, the engineering marvels, and the stories behind each car, rather than their price tags or exclusivity. It’s a refreshing approach that promotes a genuine appreciation for cars as more than just status symbols but as moving sculptures, innovations in design, and historic artifacts. This ethos resonates deeply with attendees who are more interested in sharing stories and mutual appreciation than in competing for prestige. There were even a few Youtube celebrities that showed while I was there so you never know what’ll be there. But the coolest part was that FCP Euro was hosting this specific month’s event. They shipped 2 of their Youtube projects to the show: The Golden Era 190E and an off-road Porsche Cayman. I was especially excited to see those cars as I followed them as they were building them and was truly unexpected that I would have seen them at the show. This roll of the dice car show method is the best as you truly never know what you’ll see. And worst case, if you’ve already seen it all, then get yourself a bomb cup of coffee and a breakfast burrito.

The “All Makes Welcome” car show at Good Time Coffee in Long Beach stands out as a jewel in the crown of Southern California’s automotive events. With its welcoming atmosphere, perfect blend of coffee and cars, and a focus on the appreciation of automotive art, it encapsulates the true spirit of SoCal’s diverse car culture. Whether you’re a lifelong car enthusiast or a casual admirer, this event offers something unique, making it a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the best of what small “Cars and Coffee” type shows have to offer. As for me, it’s secured a permanent spot on my calendar providing I can make it back to Long Beach. I just hope that is sooner than later.
